Congregation Ministry
Communion
Stewards
Communion Stewards serve the Lord in the celebration of the
sacrament of the last supper. They prepare, lay out and serve the
communion elements (grape juice and bread cubes) under the direction of
the Pastor. This occurs on the first Sunday of each month as part of the
regular worship service and also for special services such as Maundy
Thursday.
We have a large roster of Stewards to take care of absences due to travel
or other personal commitments.

Greeting &
Ushers
When was the last time you visited a church for the first time?
Was your first impression that people were friendly? Did you feel
comfortable? Could you feel Christ's presence? Surveys show that newcomers
decide within minutes whether or not they will return again.
God gives every believer spiritual gifts. Garfield's ushers and greeters
are people who share the love of Jesus. By using their gifts to nurture
those who enter our sanctuary on Sunday morning, they fulfill God's
purpose.
Would you like to be a greeter or an usher? Do you feel called to serve in
this way?
Within the Greeting and Ushering Ministry:
-A welcome is extended to all people entering the Church
-Before or after the service, newcomers are introduced to members of the
congregation
-Worship leaders are assisted in a variety of ways
-Bulletins are provided, children's play bags are handed out, and people
are seated
-The offering is coordinated
-The attendance is collected

Assisting
Ministers
Another Way to Serve the Lord: Become an Assisting Minister
(Liturgist)
What does an Assisting Minister do?
At our 9:30 a.m. worship service, the Assisting Minister reads the Opening
Prayer and the Scripture. At our 11:00 a.m. worship service, only the
Scripture is read.
We have several faithful participants, but we are always happy when
someone new approaches us and expresses a real interest in being included
as an Assisting Minister.

Spiritual Gifts
Applying God-given Talents through Ministry Discovery
It is our hope and joy to equip all people to be ministers - to serve in
their area of giftedness - so that each person can achieve personal and
spiritual growth and fulfillment as a contributing member of the Body of
Christ. Ministry Discovery is the process by which we assist our members
and friends in identifying their:
1. Spiritual gifts - unique abilities given to them by God
2. Heart (passion) - what they care most about
3. Personal work style - how they like to work (in a group, alone, etc.)
We developed a specific process to help new members discover the ministry
that is a right fit for them. After completing a Spiritual Gifts
Inventory, the tabulated results are shared with the new member. A
Garfield consultant will review and match the new member with suggestions
of appropriate ministries.
This Ministry Discovery program is unique in that it allows each of us to
better identify what our true talents are, and then to put them to work
for the benefit of the Church and the world. |
